Baby, you're a firework

New Year's Eve is always the same for me; I stay at home and watch the ball drop, then go straight to bed. It never fails. When I was little the tradition was for my brother and I to get our sleeping bags and sleep on the floor in my parent's room. We slept there so we could watch the ball drop on their TV, but we always ended up falling asleep before midnight.
This year, like any other, my fiance and I just stayed home. We had sparkletini, which was ehh. Nothing special. However, we ended 2013 with a bang (aka: a big purchase) and bought a DSLR camera for me! I went to Best Buy four times in two days and was between four different cameras. Finally, and thankfully, I decided on the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, and I LOVE it! It's the smallest DSLR and it has so many amazing features. Having my own DSLR makes me want to go on adventures all the time now and learn more about how to use it. I know the basics of shooting, but I want to get more creative with it.

After we ate ham sandwiches and homemade potato salad, my brother and his roommate went in our backyard and shot fireworks. It was the perfect time to try out my new camera. I did night photography last semester in school, so I knew how to adjust my settings, but the camera was so slow!
(SIDE NOTE: that's my fiance Trevor in the picture above. He was still in his work/office clothes. Isn't he just the cutest!)

This starburst photo above is my favorite one of the entire night. It's just perfect.

As we were waiting for my brother to set up the next firework, my fiance decided to entertain himself. He caught a stick on fire and just started waving it around. I took it as an opportunity to do some small scale light painting.

I hope that everyone had an amazing New Year's Eve and brought in 2014 in a happy way! Unlike most people, I probably will not make any New Year resolutions, mainly because I usually don't follow through. (In case you were wondering, which I'm sure you were not.) I do like getting inspiration from other people's resolutions. Happy 2014, y'all!
